Today's blog is in tribute to this gentleman who had a "cheerful disposition and genial manner and made friends wherever he went".
Concord has again been called to part
with a respected citizen in the death of
L. L. Shackford which occurred at his
home, Monday afternoon, January 10, of
vanvular heart trouble. Luther Lafor-
rest Shackford was born in East Boston,
Mass., January 16, 1850, an only son of
Luther C. and Harriet (Currier) Shack-
ford. His parents going to Ohio to
reside when he was three years of age, his
early life was spent in that state. At the
age of sixteen years, Mr. Shackford came
to Vermont when he commenced his ap-
prenticeship as harness maker with D. O.
Currier at Lyndon Center. He was mar-
ried April 3, 1872 to Mianda W. Hough-
ton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William
Houghton of Lyndon. Mr. and Mrs.
Shackford came to Concord in March
1876 where he was engaged in harness
business until 1888 when he sold his bus-
iness here and entered the employ of E. A.
Morgan at Barnet, which position he held
for twenty years. The last two years
spent in Barnet he worked for Mr Berry.
Mr. Shackford had been at his home here
for the past year, being unable to work.
Beside the widow left to mourn his loss,
Mr. Shackford is survived by a daughter,
Mrs. Jethro Lillicrap of this place, two
grandsons, Paul and William Lillicrap,
two half sisters, Mrs. A. L. Thomas of
East Boston and Mrs. George French of
Boston, Mass., and two half brothers,
Charles Harris of Everett, Mass., and D.
C. Harris of East Boston, Mass. In Mr.
Shackford's death the town loses a good
citizen, who by his cheerful disposition
and genial manner made friends wher-
ever he went. The funeral was held at
the home, Wednesday at eleven a. m., the
Rev. Grant Van Blarcom, officiating. The
internment was a Lyndon Center, beside
his son Willie, who died Nov. 6, 1886.

and Mrs. Wallace Houghton, Mrs. Arhsa
Turner and Mrs. Eunice Hough of Lyn-
don, Mr and Mrs. F. A. Pierce, Mrs.
O. D. Adams and Mr. and Mrs. L. V.
Hastings of St. Johnsbury, E. A. Morgan,
Walter Johnston, W. S. Brock, Byron Ber-
ry and Miss Annie Perry of Barnet.
