John Shackford, son of Amos Shackford and Mary Goodwin was born Sept 16, 1815 in Alfred, York, Maine. He married (1) Mary (Davis) Smith, a widow and after she died, married her sister (2) Elizabeth Davis. John died Oct 22, 1893 in Malden, Massachusetts leaving his estate to his two living children: John Tyler Shackford (son of Mary) and Jacob A. Shackford (son of Elizabeth). This probate record indicates that John must have had assets in Maine when he died.
John's Will
I, John Shackford of Malden in the County of Middlesex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do make my last will and testament as follows: -
First: I direct that all my just debts be paid as soon after my decease as may be.
Second: I give, bequeath and devise to my son John T. Shackford, the lot of land with the buildings thereon containing about thirteen thousand square feet, situated on the corner of Salem and Maplewood streets, in said Malden. To have and to hold the same to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
Third: I give, bequeath and devise to my son Jacob A. Shackford, the lot of land with the buildings thereon, containing about eleven thousand square feet, situated on the corner of Salem and Maplewood streets, in said Malden. To have and to hold the same to him and his heirs and assigns forever. I also give to my said son Jacob A. all my house-hold furniture, pictures, books, piano, and all the contents of every name and nature, of my dwelling house where I now live on said corner of Salem and Maplewood streets.
Fourth: I give to my said John T. the sum of one thousand dollars ($I000)
Fifth: I give and bequeath to my sister Sabra R. Gliddon now residing at Mazeppa, in the State of Minnesota, the sum of five hundred dollars ($500) provided she is living at the time of my decease.
Sixth: All the rest and residue of the property and estate of every name and nature and wherever situated, that shall belong to me at the time of my decease, I give, bequeath and devise, in equal shares, to my said sons John T. and Jacob A. Shackford. To have and to hold the same to them and their respective heirs, executors, administrators and assigns forever.
Seventh: I nominate and appoint my said sons John T. and Jacob Shackford to be the executors of this my will, and I exempt them and each of them from giving any surety or sureties on their official bond as such,
In witness whereof I the said John Shackford, have hereto set my hand and seal this twenty fourth day of July in the year eighteen hundred and ninety -

I, John Shackford, the testator within named do make this codicil to my will. Having given my sister Sabra R. Glidden, within named, the amount, given her by the fifth clause of my said will, I hereby revoke said legacy of five hundred dollars given her by the said fifth clause of my will and make the same null and void.
In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this second day of February A. D. 1893.
