Our only birth record for Alice is from Samuel Lane Boardman's Family Memorial, Records of the Boreman, Bordman and Boardman Families which is not always accurate but lists Alice's birth date as 22 October 1863 and as mentioned earlier, in 1870 we find her at age 10 living with her parents and multiple siblings with her parents in Concord.
As mentioned in a previous blog, we're trying to identify where each of John and Mary Jane Shackford's eleven children were in 1880.
We find their fourth child, Alice M Shackford on Montgomery Street in Concord, New Hampshire working as a servant in the home of 81 year old Phebe B Dunlap, a widow and her daughter Carolina A Wright.
In 1883, Alice was 21 when she married Charles W Moore of Boxborough, Massachusetts who was a 29 year old farmer, the son of Amos and Naomi Moore. Their marriage is recorded in both Boxborough and Acton Massachusetts.
Between 1884 and around 1893, the Moore's had eight children. In 1900 we find them living in Lowell. Charles, now age 46 is working as a teamster, Alice is caring for the five children who survived. We find no further record of Charles and suspect but have not yet proven that he is the Charles W Moore mentioned in multiple newspaper articles who was loading dynamite at a site in Tewksbury on July 29, 1903 when he was killed in an explosion. The newspaper articles mention a distraught wife who was an invalid and mentioned that Charles left five children, two of whom were in the Navy. We have not yet found a death record nor an obituary but do know that Alice had five children living at the time of the explosion and her two eldest sons, Rodney Gove Moore and Frank Leonard Moore were in the Navy.
In 1910 we find Alice listed as a widow in Lowell in the 1910 census with three of her children and in 1920 find her working as a servant in the home of William A Severance with one of her children. Because Moore is such a common name, we have not been able to match any further records to her.
