The 1850 census and a Maine marriage record let us know that Louisa H was Christopher's second wife and that Mehitable Maddox, his first wife was the mother of his children.
Be it remembered that I Christopher Shackford of Saco in the County of York and State of Maine, being of sacred and disposing mind and memory to make this my last will and testament as follows:
First I give, bequest and devise to my son Granville Shackford all my real and personal estate, of every description, which shall remain after payment of my debts and expenses, whatever the same may be situated, to leave and to hold to him and to his heirs and assigns forever subject to the following conditions
and provisions:
1. He is to provide and furnish to my wife Louisa H Shackford so long as she shall continue my widow, good and comfortable support and maintenance, including board, clothing, food, and suitable medical attendance, medicine and nursing as the state of her health, her age, and infirmity may render necessary facilities for as long as may be agreeable to them both, otherwise by furnishing her with board at a reasonable rate considering our circumstances at death please or may be agreeable to her and she, her heirs, and assigns are to have a claim upon the real estate herein delivered for the fulfillment of these conditions.
2. He is to pay to my two daughters Serena Shackford and Georgianna Shackford the sum of one hundred dollars to each of them and is to furnish them a house in the house of my farm, whenever they still choose to remain in there until they shall be married, they rendering such assistance in the family as would be usual assistances in their circumstances.
Second I nominate and appoint my said son Granville Shackford executor of this my will.
In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this fourteenth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty nine
Signed Christopher Shackford
