Ida was John and Mary J Shackford's third child. In the 1860 census taken in June she was listed as being 4/12's year old and at the age of 5 she was living with her mother's sister Clarissa A (Rollins) Batchelder. We don't find Ida in the 1870 census but in 1880 at the age of 20 she is still living with her aunt. However in 1883 and 1884 before her marriage she moved to Lowell where she lived with her brother Henry G Shackford.
After her marriage, Alpha and Ida moved to Minnesota where they lived with his two sons Frank K and George A and their six month old daughter Laura E Dunn but by 1900 they had returned to Massachusetts where Alpha worked as a mason. By then, Ida had a second daughter Lulu M and had lost two other children. Two years later, in February 1902, her husband Alpha reported that Ida and her two children ages 16 and 14 were missing and asked the Malden police to find them. A few weeks later the newspaper reported that Alpha had also disappeared. We don't know what happened with the family but do find the family living together in Portland, Maine in the 1910 census, and in Portland directories. Ida's husband Alpha died in Somerville, Massachusetts at the age of 74 on January 12, 1918. She remained in Portland, Maine. We find her living at 67 Austin street in Portland at the age of 96 but have not yet found her death record.
