As mentioned in blogs published on Jan 4, 2013 and Jan 26, 2013, John, who had been born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, settled in St Louis where he developed a dry goods business, became involved in local politics, owed many businesses and invested in the very profitable Louisville and Portland Canal. He left significant wealth to his wife, children, and multiple bible societies. More about his will and inventory will appear in future blogs.
