Caleb Shackford, a resident of Eaton died in Eaton on Dec 26, 1904. This information is also found in his death record which tells us he was born June 10, 1834 and was the son of Bradley and Betsey Shackford.
His widow was Lydia A Shackford. We know from their marriage record that her maiden name was Hamilton and that they were married on Jan 24, 1856.
Their only child was J. Fred Shackford who was a resident of Conway at the time of his father's death.
Caleb's widow Lydia declined administration, asked the court to assign that role to her son J. Fred Shackford and her request was approved.
Lydia and J Fred Shackford estimated the value of the estate to be about $3,000. The inventory which is included on other pages within these probate records showed the value of the estate to be $1691.25 - $1255 of real estate, and $441.25 of personal estate. We have not yet transcribed those pages and may share them in a future blog as it's interesting to know what farmers owned in 1904..
