"SAVAGE-SHACKFORD. Percy's Clerks Unexpectedly Assist at Quiet Wedding.
Roy F Shackford and Miss Alice F Savage were married Monday forenoon at 9:30 o'clock at the residence of the bride's uncle, Benjamin F Savage, High St.
The wedding ceremony was primarily intended only for the eyes and ears of the immediate families but the clerks of the D T Percy & Sons store where
the bride formerly worked heard about the event and of course a delegation was hustled up over the hill to see that proper usage was given to the bride and groom. They arrived before the ceremony was completed, not stopping to knock and immediately as the knot was tied by the Rev George D Stanley of the Beacon St Church did things to the bride and groom, filling the house with confetti and rice. The bride was pretty in a traveling gown of dove colored cloth with a becoming hat.
Mr and Mrs Shackford were taken away in a hack properly decorated. Other friends were at the station when the hack drew up. The hack was driven around the square several times in order that the tie at the train would be short but the friends there made up for all lost time when Mr and Mrs Shackford stepped forth. The car in the vicinity of their seat had been decorated when the train pulled out of the station.
Mrs Shackford is the daughter of James Savage and is a graduate of the Bath High School She has been a popular clerk in the D T Percy & Sons store for several years. Mr Shackford is the son of Mrs J B Shackford of Waterville and has been employed several years as a candy maker for J F Clary. He is a member of the Colonial Club. Both Mr and Mrs Shackford have a host of friends and nothing but best wishes for a happy and prosperous married life follow them on their honeymoon. They will visit Springfield Mass and make a trip to Vermont before returning to Bath. They will reside at 618 High St.
Among the out of town guests at the wedding were Mrs J B Shackford, mother of the groom, and Miss Meverett, Margaret and Ruth Shackford, sisters of the groom, all of Waterville."
Roy F Shackford (1881-1948) was the son of Albert Eugene Shackford and Jennie Bessie Sparks and the grandson of Nathaniel Shackford and Emeline E Lovering.
