John's two other sons who lived to adulthood, Benjamin B Shackford, and Charles W. Shackford are also found in the same Eastport census.
Benjamin, age 38, a shipmaster is found twelve pages later with real estate valued at $1400, Harriet, age 36, John E, age 16, Harriet E, age 12, Mariette, age 9, Emma, age 8, Gertrude, age 5. Elizabeth Chambers, age 15 is living with the family.
Charles, a clerk is found right above John living in real estate valued at $200 with Sophia, age 29, Maria, age 10, Silas T, age 7, Edward W., age 4. Mary Underwood, age 29 and Ellen Craig, age 19 are living with them.
This is the last census where we find all three of John's sons as Charles was lost at sea Dec 1853.
