We next find Mary Annette boarding with her mother Mary Jane Shackford in 1891 on 59 N. Spring Street in Concord, New Hampshire. Her mother is listed with the occupation of nurse but Mary is not listed with one. In 1893 and 1895 the directory lists Mary's brother Walter Henry who is working as a brakeman for the C & M railroad also living in the same household but by 1900, Mary is living in Leominster, Massachusetts where she is working as a servant housemaid for the Danforth family.
In 1910, Mary was living in Concord with the Harris family where she was working as a seamstress. We don't find her in the 1920 census but do discover her in 1930 in Epsom working as a housekeeper for the Locke family. Sometime in late 1933 she was admitted to the New Hampshire State Hospital in Concord and died there nine months later of bronchial pneumonia on June 11, 1934. According to he death record, she was buried at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord, Massachusetts.
We wish we knew something more about Mary Annette Shackford's 68 years of life but are thankful for the books, censuses, and formal records that let us know this little bit about her life.
