It is unclear when and where his daughter Charlotte Louisa Shackford was born. She lived in Saint Louis for a while and may have accompanied her father to Washington DC before attending Greenfield High School in 1836-1837 and moved to Portsmouth, New Hampshire in a house near her uncle after her father died. Charlotte married Charles Chauncey Shackford who was her first cousin (her father's brother's son) in June 1841. She prepared the will shown below in March 1842 while she was pregnant with Ellen Louisa Shackford who lived just barely a year. After Ellen's death, she and Charles moved to Burlington, Iowa where Charles pursued a career in business but also remained active in church. Charlotte died on Oct 13, 1845 and her will was proven in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on January 18, 1846.
Be it remembered that I, Charlotte L Shackford, of South Boston, Massachusetts, considering the uncertainty of this mortal life, and being of sound and perfect memory, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that it is to say: I give and bequeath unto my beloved husband Charles C Shackford, the one hundred shares in the capital stock of the Louisville & Portland Canal Company, which was bequeathed to me by my deceased father's will and standing in the names of Wm M Shackford, Jane S Shackford, and George R Shackford in trust for me.
And further, as to all the rest, residue, and remaining personal estate whatsoever, I give and bequeath the same to my beloved husband Charles C Shackford, whom I hereby appoint my sole executor of this my last will and testament.
In writing whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this third day of March 1842.
Signed sealed published and declared by the above named Charlotte L Shackford, us and for her last will and testament in the presence of us, who at her request and in her presence, and in the presence of each other, have subscribed our names as witnesses thereonto.
Wm M Shackford [her father in law, executor of her father's estate, jsp]
J C Shackford [her mother Jane C Smallcorn Shackford, jsp]
Ann D Shackford [her sister who later married Rev Tucker, jsp]
