Only Daughter of Bishop and Mrs. Atkins Weds Mr. John Shackford
[Special to the Times-Dispatch]
ASHEVILLE, N. C., February 21.- "Brannecrest," the home of Bishop and Mrs. James Atkins, at Waynesville was attractively decorated to-day, the occasion being the marriage of their only daughter, Miss Love Branner Atkins, to Mr. John Shackford, of Lynchburgh, Va. Galex and cut flowers were lavishly used in the decorations. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Joseph Shackford, father of the groom, in the spacious hall, beneath an arch of white carnations and smilax, brilliantly lighted with electric lights and many altar candles.
The musical program of several numbers preceded the wedding march from Mendelssohn, which was rendered by Miss Frederica Quinland, accompanied by Miss Margaret Stringfield on the violin.
The little ribbon girls were daintily gowned in white net, two over white and two over pink. The first bridesmaid Miss Dupre, of Spartanburg, was joined at the foot of the stairs by James Atkins, Jr., brother of the bride. They were followed by the charming sister of the groom Miss Mary Shackford, of Lynchburg, Va., and Mr. J. A. Cunningham of Nashville, Tenn. The bridesmaids wore white radium silk and carried large bouquets of pink roses. The maid of honor, Miss Sarah Stringfield, entered alone, wearing white tissue over pink silk, with trimmings of real lace, and carried a handsome bunch of pink roses. The groom entered from the east door, accompanied by Mr Theodore Shackford, his brother, and awaited the bride at the altar. The bride, exquisitely gowned in Brussels lace over white taffeta chiffon, and carrying a bouquet of Bride roses and lilies-of the valley, descended the stairs on the arm of her father, Bishop Atkins, and proceeded to the altar, where she was given by him to the groom.
After the ceremony elaborate refreshments were served. Mr. and Mrs. Shackford left on the afternoon train for the East, and on their return will make their home at Lynchburg, Va.
