This card verifies that Ebed L. Shackford whose biography was shared in a blog on September 6, 2013, served as a private and as quartermaster in the Maine Calvary. It shows that he received a pension effective May 18, 1907 based on the Act of February 6th 1907 which stated the pension for a veteran between the ages of 62 and 75 was $12 per month. The card also lets us know that Ebed's death [which occurred on Oct 1, 1908] was reported to the Veteran's Administration on Jan 23, 1909.
Additional information about Ebed Shackford's pension and service to include the documents he submitted in accordance with the Act of February 6th 1907 as "proof of such facts according to such rules and regulations as the Secretary of the Interior" may be available at the National Archives for a fee.
