In a March 12, 2013 blog about Captain Benjamin Batson Shackford, I mentioned that I planned to visit the Border Historical Society in Eastport, Maine. I hoped to see their Barracks Historical Room which contains an extensive collection of northern Maine genealogical informatinon, reference materials, and historical photographs.
I haven't been able to get there, however thanks to Leasa Garvin, one of their members, I have been fortunate to receive digital copies of photographs from Ruth Grant Pearson's scrapbook. Ruth was the great granddaughter of Benjamin, granddaughter of Ann Pearce Shackford (1883-1924), and the daughter of Hattie Shackford Bradford (1861-1946). Ann, Hattie, and Ruth ended up living in Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon, so it's wonderful that she donated her scrapbook which contains newspaper articles, photographs, notes and genealogical trees to the Border Historical Society.
I am honored to have the opportunity to share these photographs of Shackfords I've been researching for many years and thank the Border Historical Society for allowing the history of these Shackfords along with this historical information from Ruth's scrto be shared via this blog.
I'd love to hear from anyone else who shares an interest in the Eastport Shackfords!
