This week Randy's blog contained a reference to the Middlesex County, Massachusetts Probate Records which have been added as a free resource to the AmericanAncestors.org Website. As usual he included great background describing the collection and excellent screen shots showing users how to access the probate records. We clicked on the link he provided, searched for SHACKFORD and found the probate records for Amaziah Goodwin Shackford (1817-1869)!
These probate records give us the name of Amaziah' wife (Adeline), children living at the time his will was written (George W, Otis Henry, and Charles W), the name of his brother (John), his sister's name (Sabra Shackford Glidden) and the name of his business partner (Nathaniel George). They include Amaziah's will, the accounting of his estate, and letters from his wife stating that his brother and businesss' partner have not shared the proceeds of his estate with her as required in the will.
Over the next few weeks we'll review Amaziah's probate and see what else we can find out about his life.
Thanks to Randy Seaver for sharing this wonderful information about the Middlesex probate records and to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Archives for contributing them to NEHGS and making them available to the general public for free. Not only can we see these wonderful records about Amaziah and learn more about his life, but because of Randy's blog, we took a deeper look at AmericanAncestors.org and learned that we can see more probate records of other SHACKFORDs which we'll also explore in future blogs!
